Instruction FormAshley, 10 min
  • Ashley recently shared an announcement via email regarding a beta version of a revised instruction form:
    • "At our last CLAP meeting, we discussed the CUL-wide effort led by Melissa Wallace and Sara E. Wright to simplify content and customization on the CUL website. Our heavily-customized instruction request forms that varied by unit were proving complicated to maintain and we were asked to move toward one request form on the CUL Instruction page. Sara and Melissa took a stab at revising and simplifying, and the new page and request form is available for review on the beta site here:   https://new.library.cornell.edu/research-teaching/instruction-support/ . The objective was to reduce customization and extra language to make future updates on the site (and form) more manageable. So when reviewing, please keep in mind that the goal is not to be exhaustive.  An announcement *should* go out before holiday break, but if it doesn’t, know that there will be a banner at the top of the existing website where people can test the beta version and provide feedback via a libwizard form."

    • Please review the new form and send any feedback to Ashley and Reanna by next Tuesday, Dec. 13 before the announcement goes out to all of CUL.

Meeting time

Reanna, all - 5 min
  • Does our regular meeting time, first Wednesdays of the month at 3pm ET, still work for our spring schedules?
    • If so, let Reanna know! She'll check in with Law Library folks.
  • Would anyone be heartbroken if we cancel the Jan. 4 meeting? Many folks will be out/unavailable at that time, as well as the following week.
    • RE will check in via email after the week of Jan. 4 to gauge whether we should have a Jan. meeting or just hold off until February.
Updates, announcements, and next stepsall, 5 min
  • Hannah Toombs, Olin's new Engaged Learning Librarian, just started on Dec. 1! She will be a new Committee member starting in January.

Subteam Check-ins

Reanna, all - 15 min
  • Subteams:
    • Tools subteam:
      • Round of applause for tools subteam! They created a Kahoot proposal and already received AUL feedback.
        • Simeon's feedback: we need to create a statement of need regarding the tool. RE can submit a statement of need, Simeon will handle the rest of it. Full instructions on statements of need are on Confluence.
      • We can pull heavily from the proposal to get the content together.
      • Notes from Lauren regarding her personal Kahoot account subscription proposal:
        • TRA assessment wasn't necessary for Lauren's proposal.
        • Web accessibility check for Kahoot will take place in January. This might suffice for this group's proposal.
      • RE will:
        • Check with Simeon to see if Lauren's statement of need suffices, or whether we should just submit a separate form.
        • Correspond with tools subteam to check that the content for the statement of need is okay.
      • Ideally, we should accomplish this by next Wednesday, Dec. 14.
    • Data literacy subteam:
      • Decisions for colearning sessions: Tricider poll results show a tie between two potential paths:
        • Path A: Host initial panel of librarians who work with data in January/early Feb and ask for feedback about what content attendees would like for future sessions
        • Path B: Host a series (3-4) of panels/workshops throughout next semester.
Session one will be on what kind of work folks are doing to support data literacy at CUL. Session two could be on understanding a data question and how to help with basic data questions during reference transactions. Session three could be on incorporating some data literacy into your information literacy sessions. Session four could be a primer on a programming language such as Python or R.

      • Decision: Path B – we can schedule the programs ourselves.
        • Using the brainstorming doc, let's record who we should contact regarding which sessions, as well as the subteam member responsible for contacting those folks. Use the doc to record any other pertinent information (e.g., this person is unavailable in early Feb. but is available the week of February break).
          • Perhaps early February would be an ideal time to transition into trainings: Feb. break week might be especially ideal. There are usually not that many conflicts on calendars then.
