Cornell has an indoor climbing gym (Lindseth) at Bartels Hall. Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/g7EspXm4zKmqmSsS9

Lindseth has 3 different kinds of climbing

  1. Bouldering
    1. No rope, only mat/cushion on the ground, shorter but challenging routes
    2. No certifications necessary
  2. Top rope
    1. Rope from the top, tall routes
    2. You don't need a certificate to climb, but you'll need a certified belayer to belay you unless you use the auto-belay device (limited climbing routes). You'll need to get certified at using auto-belay device as well but this only takes ~10 minutes or so for training and certification
    3. You'll need to get tested and certified to belay people
  3. Lead
    1. Rope from bottom, very tall routes
    2. You'll need to take and pay for Lindseth's "How to Lead" class specifically, take the test, and then get certified for this
    3. You'll need a belayer who is also lead-certified
