Criteria for creation of a new service point

As described in FOLIO’s official documentation, new service points are necessary whenever a location will provide at least one of the following services:

  • Check in items
  • Check out items
  • Request items for patron delivery
  • Request items for patron pickup
  • Put items in transit to another location
  • Charge fines for transactions, which occurred at that location

Proposals for new service points

Proposals should be submitted to the Access Services Team via the Director, Access Services or another member of that group. AST’s roster can be found on its Confluence page.

Creation of new service points

Once the new service point is approved, it can be created by anyone with an Access Services Administrator permissions set. Prior to doing so, they should consult with Library Annex Supervisor regarding a timeline, since updates may need to be made to Caiasoft, the Annex’s inventory management system. The process for creating a new service point can be found here: Creating Service Points.

Once the service point has been created, it will need to be assigned to a Fee/Fine - Owners to prevent unexpected errors from occurring, even if we do not expect fines to accrue for items associated with that service point. Service points that items will be checked out from will need a calendar as well.
