Machine User Accounts

Need

Initially requested by Nick Cappadona:

These accounts will be used by our apps to programmatically authenticate via API endpoints and retrieve an OKAPI token.

Here's an initial list of applications, but by no means is it exhaustive:

• MARC order import
• Offline circ transactions
• Spine labeling
• LTS workflows for batch & automation
• Discovery (Library Catalog)

Potential Naming Conventions

• machine_
• app_
• bot_

Account Creation Sample

• Last name (app_foliotest)
• Patron group (zCornellAdmin)
• Username (app_foliotest) - essential for Machine User Accounts (easy to miss because the Honeysuckle FOLIO interface doesn't require it)
• Email (library-systems@cornell.edu) - whoever's creating the account should first enter their email address, in order to create a password

Password Creation

• A "Folio password" entry, to the right of Username in Extended Information, will appear after you've saved the user account information and then chosen Edit.  This will give you the option to send a password reset email. Or finish setting up the account, log out of FOLIO, and do the following: at the login screen, choose Forgot Password, and put in the newly-created username.  You'll then get a password reset email.
• LastPass can generate a password for the account.  Make sure Symbols is one of the chosen options.
• The Username and password should be stored in LastPass' Shared-Folio DMG folder.
