• Hidden permissions are routinely added to "machine user" permission sets.  However, hidden permissions should be added to "people user" permission sets (or given to a user directly) only when absolutely needed – to work around a bug, for example.
  • Visible permissions look like the lower three items in the following list.  Visible permissions always display as the name of app, followed by a colon, followed by the permission.  Hidden permissions never follow that format.  They may look like the two items with red arrows, or different, but they never follow the format of visible permissions.

  • If you are ADDING (viewing itself is safe) a permission to a set that contains hidden permissions, you MUST first choose to list invisible permissions as described in the next bullet point.  Otherwise the set will be saved without the hidden permissions that were previously there.  (8/11/21 - this problem continues in the Juniper Snapshot; we submitted a bug report: https://issues.folio.org/browse/UXPROD-3216)
  • In Settings/Developer/Configuration, put a checkmark to list invisible permissions.  Then click Save on the bottom of the screen.

  • IN THIS SAME browser window, go to Users/Permission Sets.  (The listing of invisible permissions doesn’t carry across tabs.)  In the screenshot above,  Users is three below Developer.
  • When you create or edit a permission set,  or click on Add Permission, it may take a while for the permissions to load.  For a few seconds you may see a blank list.  Be patient.

  • Use Search to track down what you need.  Note that many of the hidden permissions have very similar names, so double-check your selection.
  • Close your browser tab when you’re done editing permissions to get rid of the invisible permissions checkmark in the Developer settings.  (Or go back to Developer settings and uncheck invisible permissions, then hit Save.)
