    • At the December 16 meeting of the FOLIO Governance Steering Committee, the group asked me to work with Access Services and Public Services to see if we want to implement title-level requesting (TLR) for CUL after it becomes available in the Morning Glory release of FOLIO and report back. At our next meeting on January 6, I reported that Bonna had asked the Access Services Strategy (ASST) to consult with other groups (e.g. D&A use reps) and come up with a recommendation. After reviewing all of the available TLR documentation  (including this slide deck and this page on the FOLIO wiki) and testing the functionality which was expected to be available in Lotus in Bugfest (but which has now been pushed back to Morning Glory per the original plan), our key takeaways are as follows:

      • TLR is an all-or-nothing proposition: if we turn it on, it will be available for all items in FOLIO, and we can't turn it off again until all title-level requests are processed.
      • That said, turning it on does not make this option available to patrons, which is a separate process: Blacklight is not currently compatible with TLR, so nothing will change in the discovery layer without further development. If we turn TLR on without also undertaking this development, we would essentially be creating new options just for staff.
      • If we turn TLR on, we will also need to make a number of related changes in FOLIO, including (but not necessarily limited to) creating new notices and updating our circ rules.

Tom Trutt was kind enough to write up a more comprehensive report on what implementing TLR would require, which I lightly edited and shared with ASST. After discussing it in a meeting earlier this week, we would like to recommend turning TLR on in FOLIO and undertaking the development required (as described in Tom’s report) to enable patrons to use it to request extended-loan laptops and specialized equipment sometime after this functionality becomes available when we upgrade to Morning Glory. Tom checked in with Frances, who indicated that she doesn’t have any major concerns, so we don’t think further consultation is required prior to bringing this back to the Governance Steering Committee.
