1accessibilityBe sure that Spotlight Exhibits meets accessibility requirements and meets a required minimum SiteImprove scoreKen Williams, Eveline FerrettiSpotlight 3.0 addresses many accessibility issues.  Under evaluation.
2Better landing page
  1. Can landing page (exhibits.library.cornell.edu) be organized differently? Currently already looking quite cluttered, which will only get worse as more exhibits are added. Suggest better presentation of exhibit categories/tags (maybe with brief descriptive text?) and then show only three actual exhibit tiles, in rotation (so all exhibits have equal chance of being featured; alternatively, limit to 4 most recent exhibits).
  2. On main landing page at https://exhibits.library.cornell.edu/ the exhibit text snippets that show up when you hover over an exhibit tile are inconsistently handled. Many are just truncated and as a result pointless summaries; some are the first part of the 1st sentence of each exhibit. I suggest dropping that snippet feature entirely—it looks like a clumsy, ultimately failed attempt to be in some way fancy or informative.

3more tabs on main menuWant to be able to add additional tabs (aka page types) to the navigation menu.  Currently, you are limited to the four tabs  "Home" "Browse" "About" "Features".  (Note from Eveline: I believe Spotlight currently limit to 3 tabs only, right? Can be named anything but only three allowed on horizontal navigation bar for any given exhibit; can this be expanded at least to 4, but ideally more)

5connection to other reposFor example, CUL digital collections portal, Shared Shelf, eCommons, Flicker, etc.Ken Rozyn, Ken WilliamsThere are plans to explore this.
6more granular control of widgetsFor example, I’d like to control the way that a mosaic view breaks into rows and columns (as is, it’s kind of random- e.g., I have two pages in the same exhibit where there’s a single image that displays on a bottom row. On one page, it’s centered – on the other, it’s in the rightmost column).Ken Rozyn
7*reconciled exhibits pageNeed a main page that includes all exhibits regardless of which infrastructure was used to create the exhibit.Ken Williams, Marcie Farwell

multiple images for one itemWould like to have multiple images for a single item.  For example, a garment  can have front, back, and side images for a single garment which represent a single item.  A potential alternative would be to create a Giphy with each of the images.  NOTE: This wouldn't work for items with many images and may has accessibility problems.Denise Green, Ken Rozyn, Ken WilliamsSpotlight/#851

Glitch: image level pages and back navigation

image level pages get messed up when you navigate away from them and then attempt to return using the back button

Explore connection with the PortalInterested in exploring whether it would be possible to ingest portal items and all of their metadata directly into Spotlight. However, would still like to retain ability of adding non-portal items to Spotlight exhibit without having to first ingest those items into the portalEmily Zinger

support for a/v files as items Videos are supported through embed and iFrames. we would like to be able to upload these kinds of files as items themselves.Denise Green, Ken Rozyn, Emily Zinger, Pheobe Kowalewski

include more than two metadata fields on page with accompanying itemCurrently if a creator wants to include more metadata for an item on an exhibit page they have to create a separate text field on that page, rather than simply pulling in the metadata automatically.Pheobe Kowalewski

Aesthetics of item pages are clunkyWe would like to be able to change the size of an image to make more strategic use of white space on an item level page, rather than being restricted to the default size of a bounding box. And we would like all text to be justified left.Emily Zinger, Pheobe Kowalewski, Craig Mains, Eveline Ferretti

Make bounding boxes responsive to size of imagesIf an image is particularly large (either horizontally or vertically), the boudning box scrunches it while leaving a lot of unused white space on an item page. We also do not like how the bounding box always displays grey borders around images. We would like the option to make the box transparent.Craig Mains

support TIFF imagesI think support for this is similar to support for PDF filesKen Rozyn

delete exhibitsThis exists, but is limited to super-admins.  Curators must request an exhibit be deleted.  They can mark it as unpublished.Ken Rozyn

delete itemsOnce uploaded Spotlight, does not allow an item to be deleted.  This was a general design decision by the Spotlight developers because in some cases, an item can be used in multiple exhibits.  That does not apply to uploaded images, so there is an opportunity to explore making a change for this.Rachel Getman, Ken RozynSpotlight/#1678 (for deleting items when an exhibit is deleted); Spotlight/#843 (discussion of why not to delete items)

copyright

Define policy related to assuring copyright is attained, include notice in Spotlight where images are uploaded about how to deal with copyright, and answer other questions related to copyright.  Must have a way to remove all access to an item if it is determined copyright is not valid, or if limited time access.  NOTE: This can be done manually now by unchecking the published box for an item.

Need copyright metadata field to be default across all exhibits.

Steven Calco, Eveline Ferretti, Emily Zinger, Craig Mains

embargo/leaseTo facilitate the availability of content related to copyright restrictions, it would be good to have the ability to set an embargo (date an item becomes visible) and a lease (date an item ceases to be visible).  NOTE: This can be done manually now by unchecking the published box for an item.Ken Williams

related itemsLinks to other items that are related to the current item.  NOTE: This can be achieved by adding a custom metadata field to an exhibit.Ken Williams

Glitches in image appearance
  1. On Social Fabric page at https://exhibits.library.cornell.edu/social-fabric-land-labor-and-the-world-the-textile-industry-created/feature/industrialization, click to enlarge image (top right icon on each image)  produces either wrong result (wrong enlarged image; hitting the back button on that then puts you back on landing page) or no result (i.e. page with enlarged image just doesn’t open).

Some of Mann's published exhibits seem to be susceptible to broken image display. Can we figure out why this happens so we can address within the given exhibit.
  2. https://exhibits.library.cornell.edu/cider/feature/pomona-herefordiensis - inconsistent handling of image click; for some, something weird happens when you try to full screen the images; doesn’t give you the what is expected, then exiting the full screen puts you in a weird place. Also, info about each image is missing.
  3. https://exhibits.library.cornell.edu/cider/feature/cider-research-at-cornell - broken images

analytics for each exhibitDashboard currently showing no data. Can we get this to work again?  (Earlier request, from a time when the Dashboard was working: "The current dashboard shows site wide exhibits with a list of stats for the top 25 visited exhibits.  This includes total Pageviews and BounceRate for each exhibit that is in the top 25.  The summary information includes all exhibits, but you can't get any information beyond pageviews and bounce rate for each individual exhibit.  The request is to expand the dashboard to include a separate page for each exhibit that will have exhibit specific stats.")Eveline Ferretti
