11/15/16: Michael Hint and Oliver visited wtih Jiwoong to check-in on the items from 11/14.

11/14/16: Group packing up this week. Michael Hint and Oliver stopped by the group this morning to ask if anyone had any questions or concerns we might help with, and things seemed OK to them.

Oliver's notes:

Timing:

  • Park group remains for a while after Jiwoong has left.
    • Quick chat with Jiwoong: "Don't worry about it" re: making plans, since group is staying past when Jiwoong leaves.
    • Group is here at least until early September, last Jiwoong provided dates (below). David Neish had not heard otherwise, as of June 30, 2016.
  • Jiwoong himself leaves at the end of July, per conversations with Oliver, June 30, 2016.

Summary of Chemistry IT's concerns

Hardware

  • What machines will stay or go?
  • For those going:
    • What needs to be de-cornelled?
    • Licensing will stop working.

User access

  • NetID's?

Other info

  • Per Pat Hine's office, ~3 grads leaving with Park (as of 4/29/16).
  • A leave-of-absence may confirm benefits to Park re: NetID-related authorizations and email. (Joyce finding out, as of 4/29/16).

Subject: Greetings from Chemistry IT

Jiwoong,

Nice seeing you earlier this week. Here's the info I promised you:

Within VIVO, you refer to your group's web site at Cornell with the now-broken URL <http://www.chem.cornell.edu/jp275/index.html>. By updating that link at VIVO to either your Cornell group web site, <http://park.chem.cornell.edu/> and/ or your current web site address at Chicago, <https://chemistry.uchicago.edu/faculty/faculty/person/member/jiwoong-park.html>, you will no longer be broadcasting that broken URL.

One place that broken URL is broadcasted automatically from VIVO is your Cornell faculty profile, <http://chemistry.cornell.edu/jiwoong-park>.

All the best, -Oliver.

P.S. The following may be of value to you or the IT support folks at Chicago. Of course if any problems come up, feel free to reach out to us:

(1) Reminder that the instrument computers set up in Cornell's environment, especially maintaining the accounts tied to Cornell's Active Directory, may not work ideally within their new environment.

(2) Hopefully the normal NetID-related processes will work without any extra effort as folks here move to Chicago, especially for continuing PostDocs. CIT has a good page specifying what happens regarding NetID-based services when one leaves, <http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/netid/leave.cfm>.

My notes regarding your move, including the above info, is parked for reference at:

Jiwoong,

Thank you for the update on your departure timing, and we’ll plan to connect in June. Please note that I will be away basically all of July, FYI.

I have created a status page for us to track concerns and to-do’s related to your departure from Cornell, as they come up:

https://confluence.cornell.edu/x/Uzf_Ew

I linked to Will Dichtel’s group’s page since it’s a similar process. One challenge to discuss is how best to deal with moving computers off of Cornell’s Active Directory so they can be best managed at your destination. FYI: Will solved that problem by deciding to leave behind almost all his computers; he came to this decision independently simple by deciding they were all too old to move. :-)

Please do let me know if there is anything I can help with, and otherwise we’ll connect in June.  Yours, Oliver.

Hi Oliver,

Thank you for reaching out to me. Let's meet some time in June to discuss this.
We will have a better idea about the timing of our moving then. We will be here at least until early September.

Best, Jiwoong

Jiwoong,

In preparing for your departure to Chicago, I suggest we together identify in what ways ChemIT can assist, if any.

I have recently been consulting with Will Dichtel and his IT Rep regarding his group’s upcoming move. My recent experience with that group might be helpful to your group.

May we meet next week to identify the IT-related topics we might want to consider, and perhaps clarify with whom you’d like ChemIT staff to work with on selected areas of concern, as appropriate? My work calendar is current, if you can view it.

In service, -Oliver.
