Identifying equipment no longer of value to staff in the areas supported by PhysIT, in Physics Admin and Instruction. Determine best way to give it away or dispose of it.

Benefits

  • Keeping only useful equipment improves our management of that equipment. Including finding it when we need it!
  • Also, keeping only what we need helps us use less space.

Subject: RE: Old Physics hardware: Any of value to your work?

Seems like a good first step. Keep me posted.

Thanks,

==================

John,

We currently have items in the Physics stockroom that in my estimation are not of value to the areas PhysIT currently supports. To determine if the equipment is of value elsewhere in Physics I offered the equipment to Nick, Vince, and Mark. My specific language is forwarded below, for your review.

If this is not the desired process, please let me know. Otherwise I will report to you any input I get from them. And we can discuss the options for getting rid of the rest of this equipment from Physics, if still deemed appropriate to do so.

Thank you, -Oliver.

We have hardware in the Physics stockroom which in our estimation cannot be gainful reused within Physics’s staff areas. However, it is functional equipment and may represent value in other contexts.

I am writing to you to find out if the equipment might be of value to your work areas in Physics. If so, I can arrange for you to pick it up and I will update our inventory to reflect its new location and new owners. :-)For the equipment not wanted by you, I will confer with John Miner. With his permission, I would like to direct some of the equipment to stock for Chemistry’s research groups and dispose of the rest via Cornell’s recycling service using our usual procedures.

Here’s approximately what we have available, out of Physics’s stock:

  • 2 Dell Optiplex 745’s
  • 3 Dell Optiplex 755’s (after we retain one “just in case”)
  • 1 Dell Precision 380, s/n 2FVZX81 (Bought 12/1/05. You can look the delivered specs up at Dell. Ex: PROCESSOR, 80547, PENTIUM 4 PRESCOTT DT, 640, SKT-T, MALE)
  • 5-10 LCD monitors (after we retain 5-10)
  • A few keyboards.
