How to's for Chemistry IT staff

Add and remove members with Active Directory group

  • Use Quest tool, with DOC account.

Add a folder for each new group member and set the permissions on it correctly.

  • With ADM account,  browse to group's share's User folder.
  • Create new folder with NetID of new group member.
  • Remove inheritable permissions
    • Go to folder's Properties.
    • Select Security tab.
    • Click Advanced button.
    • Click Change Permissions button.
    • Deselect check box for Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent
      • In subsequent dialog box that comes up automatically, select "Add" so get current permissions.
    • Save changes. 
  •  Remove Group's group, and add user.
    • Go to folder's Properties.
    • Select Security tab.
    • Select Edit button.
    • Select group and Remove.
    • Select Add button.
    • Enter in NetID and select Check Names.
    • Select check box for Modify. Leave all others as they are (Full control and Special permissions are only ones not selected).
    • Save changes.
  • Have user verify all works as expected.
