ELMS wrote us instructions for adding someone based on their request, copied below.

  • AND couldn't then find them in ELMS.
  • AND it was very easy to just ad hoc add them anyway, once we knew they wanted to be added!

For add hoc adds

  • See step (4), below.
  • Our convention is to name the import:
    • NetID ad hoc add
  • If PostDoc, add to the "Staff" group.
    • For non-staff, other groups include Student, Faculty, etc.

Here is what ELMS wrote us, May 2018

Depending on the specifics in the "Issue Description" provided below, the user is probably requiring help registering their account. Please follow the instructions below.

1. Sign in to the Administration website of your ELMS WebStore.

2. Start by searching for the user based on the information provided in this email.

3. If you FIND the user and have made a decision to allow them access to your WebStore:

     (a) Ensure the status of the user is either Active or Pending Registration.

     (b) Ensure the user has a valid email address on their account.

     (c) Click the "Send Account Information" button on the user details page. Depending on the status of the user this will send either the "Pending Registration" email or an email with their username and other information to assist the user in signing in to their account.

4. If you DO NOT FIND the user and have made a decision to allow them access to your WebStore:

     (a) Use the "Users > Import Users" function to import the user into the appropriate user group. To ensure that they receive an automatic email to finalize their registration, please use an email address as their username. There are no other steps required for this method.

     (b) You can create the user manually and then follow step 3 above.
