Bikkuriman stickers were free collectible stickers that came with "Bikkuriman Choco" (Surprise-man chocolates) wafer snacks. The chocolate wafers were of fairly low quality and tasted equally bad, but were nonetheless popular purely for the collectible stickers contained within.

"Bikkuriman choco is a cheap chocolate snack that became immensely popular in the 1980s because of a sticker enclosed in each package. The stickers portray various fictitious characters that inhabit the 'Bikkuriman World'; and there are rare, premium 'shiny' stickers. The stickers became collectors' items and parents raised eyebrows as children purchased the snack just for the stickers and threw away the chocolate wafer; its popularity spawned several comic and anime series." - Excerpt from footnote of Hiroki Azuma's book on Otaku: Japan's Database Animals.
