Solar Autoclave
Team Members: Derek Sung, Amelia Elverson, Joanna Cherches, Xiao Yin Ma, Pablo Herrera and Sarah Schoeflin
This team is using a parabolic trough focusing sunlight onto a black pipe to boil water in a closed system including a pressure cooker. The temperature and pressure in the pressure cooker are adequate to sterilize medical instruments. The goal of the project is to provide an inexpensive, easily constructable and useable autoclave for clinics.
