Notes from the first Persistent Identifier Task Force meeting

  • We agreed to meet weekly to try and finish our recommendations by mid-November
  • The group will work together to create an inventory of existing persistent IDs in use at CUL
  • See the working document on goals for a list of goals for persistent identifiers discussed during the meeting
  • The group agreed to build scenarios for using persistent IDs

The Ockham registry is currently used for collection metadata - is this part of the overall problem and solution that we should address?

The existing Handle system is used for identifiers for the LSDI efforts, and also for Project Euclid. These should be included in our scenarios.

CUL OAIS ingest is currently non-branded and uses Handle System numbers 1813 and 1813.001

There was a brief discussion of what a "private" identifier (e.g. for a dark archive) is. Is this something that we should include?

Action Items:

  1. Inventory existing Persistent ID systems at CUL
  2. List the outside Persistent ID schemes that we should consider in developing our recommendation
  3. Brainstorm usage scenarios
