Graduate Studies in Food Safety at Texas Tech University: Graduate students interested in training in food safety typically apply to and enroll in MS or PhD programs in Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University with a focus in Food Safety & Microbiology.  

Both pre- and post- harvest food safety issues are addressed in the food safety laboratories which are part of the International Center for Food Industry Excellence (ICFIE).  ICFIE is a collaborative center with faculty members from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and College of Human Sciences.  There are four emphasis areas; 1) Food Safety, 2) Value-Added Processing, 3) Nutrition and 4) Outreach and Education.

Undergraduate Food Safety Studies at Texas Tech University: Undergraduates interested in training in food safety typically apply to and enroll in a major in Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University. While there is no designated "Food Safety" major at Texas Tech University, in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences, you have several options for your education.  They offer two degrees Animal Science or Food Science.  Student majoring in animal science may choose from 4 emphases:  Animal Business, Production, Science and Meat Science.  A major in food science provides the basic course work for a comprehensive background in the processing and preservation of foods. Food science graduates may be employed in areas concerned with food systems management, design and development of new food products, strategies for quality assurance and food safety, or research in basic constituents of food.  Basic information for these undergraduate programs can be found here
