Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Schleissheim (seroformula 4,12,27:b:−) was found to have 18 virulence-associated genes and to lack all genes localised within bacteriophages and plasmids.
Animal reservoir: Salmonella Schleissheimis rarely isolated from reptiles and birds.
Geographical distribution: S. Schleissheim has been isolated several times in Europe, and has been identified as the cause of salmonellosis in Turkey.
