Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Saphra (antigenic formula 16:y:1,5) is a serovar of the O:16 (I) serogroup.

Animal Reservoir: There is not clear evidence of the animal reservoir for this serovar.

Geographical distribution: Serovar Saphra has been reported in cantaloupes from Mexico and ground spices in Italy.

Outbreaks:  There are limited reports of outbreaks associated with Salmonella Saphra in humans.
