Background: Salmonella enterica ser. Matadi (Antigenic formula 17:k:e,n,x), is a serovar of the O:17 (J) group.

Firstly isolated in 1954 from Matadi, the regional capital of Belgian Congo which was the former name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This serotype is rare and particularly associated with the intestine of adult female iguana as the source of infection.
