Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Abaetetuba (antigenic formula 11:k:1,5) is a serovar of the O:11 serogroup. A Salmonella strain with this serotype is frequently used as a control strain. S. Abaetetuba is an infrequently reported serovar of Salmonella associated with human infection and has been found in bean sprouts. 

Animal reservoir: Serovar Abaetetuba was not found in animals.

Geographical distribution: Serovar Abaetetuba has been found in Argentina, England, and Northern Ireland.

Outbreaks:  No outbreaks have been associated with S. Abaetetuba.
