For 15 years, Kapil Mathur has managed a team that trades financial instruments
worldwide using data driven quantitative methods at Cubist Systematic
Strategies. Three decades ago, upon earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical
engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Mathur came to the U.S. to
study at Cornell University for his doctoral degree in mechanical engineering.
After working as a scientist at the Thinking Machines Corporation in Cambridge,
MA, Mathur relocated to New York to pursue finance. During Mathur’s
24 years in New York, he had also been a vital member of the quantitative
teams at D.E. Shaw and HBK Investments. To give back to his community, he
is currently the treasurer of the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School,
an independent school in New York. Outside of work, Mathur is a passionate
reader, an avid collector of old comic books and an ardent fantasy football
player.
