Erin Fischell

Erin M. Fischell is an assistant scientist in the Applied Ocean Physics and
Engineering Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI)
in Woods Hole, MA, where she runs the Marine Unmanned Robotics and
Acoustics Lab. Her research focuses on underwater acoustics, adaptive
sensing, multi-vehicle autonomy and machine learning, with a project
portfolio that includes funding from ARPA-E, ONR, DARPA, SERDP and
NOAA. Fischell teaches graduate courses in environmental ocean acoustics
and adaptive array processing at MIT and WHOI, and is a member of
underwater acoustics and acoustical oceanography technical committees
for the Acoustical Society of America. She received a B.S. in mechanical
engineering at Cornell in 2010, and a Ph.D. in mechanical and oceanographic
engineering from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program in 2015. Fischell lives in
Falmouth, MA, with her husband Sam Fladung (Cornell ECE ‘08) and their
daughters, Maria and Hazel.
