Copying AFS Files To and From Your Computer

Option 1- Install the AFS Client

Link to AFS wiki page

Please note that Cornell GuestID users will not be able to login to AFS via the AFS client from off campus without use of the Cornell VPN.

Option 2 - SFTP (Use this method to remotely access the Lab Transfer share)

  1. Connect via SFTP to remote.cnf.cornell.edu
  2. Login with the SHORT version of your Cornell NetID/GuestID and associated password
  3. If you receive an error box "Error looking up user groups", don't worry... just click "OK" and you can continue logging in
  4. Initially, you will be working directly out of your AFS home folder
  5. You can move up directory levels to get to CNF shares or to someone else's home folder – the lab transfer share is accessible at the top level folder: /cnflab

Recommended SFTP Clients

Recommended SFTP clients along with instructions are on the File Transfers with SFTP web page.

Large File Transfers

Please contact CNF Computing for help on transferring large files ( a gigabyte or more) for conversion work directly to/from the scratch space on the CNF Conversion computers or tool computers. Do not store large files directly on the Lab Transfer Share.
