Agenda for December 5, 2014

Upcoming meetings:  No meeting on December 12.  Last 2014 meeting will be on December 19.  We will consider changing our regular meeting time in January.

Updates:

  • CE break up with ProQuest - Jesse will notify ProQuest on December 10, unless given the go ahead by Bob and Xin beforehand.  No mention of Intota at this time,  This can come as follow up early next year.
  • Client Center Slowness update:
    • Response from ProQuest 12/3/2014: Our developers inform me that they have identified and fixed one issue that may have caused the latency issue and are reporting that the test searches they have run (e.g. a provider search for "Springer" followed by clicking on the "Springer-Verlag" link to go to the provider details page) have taken less than 20 seconds to load. However, there are many possible causes of latency and may have been multiple issues causing this problem. Please let me know if you are still experiencing latency in the Client Center and I will let the developers know so that they can continue to troubleshoot the issue.
    • 2CUL will continue to document slowness - both major slowdowns and "as designed" slowness.

Troubleshooting reboot - Start this discussion in earnest in January.

 - Next steps? - What does RM give us that we didn't have before? - Access to what is subscribed, what should be showing up in MARC records, Summon, Link resolver.  Begin to record information in consistent ways.

Voyager? - precise payment information, non-Serials Solutions information, - Do we need to begin touring each other's Voyager systems?

A lot of local knowledge and practices.  Is there something we can do with troubleshooting/information sharing to start to reduce these local differences in sensible ways?  Should we rely on a common implementation of a new LMS or is there something we can or should do ahead of that?

Short term - are there big issues with big accounts we can help each other with?

License entry planning - leave until next meeting.

WorldCat Discovery group - Susan - Columbia group, Susan is chair.  WC Discovery is to replace FirstSearch (ends December 2015). Testing the system for functionality, customization. Feedback from librarians so far is mostly shock at loss of FirstSearch.     Susan gave a tour of the system and Columbia notes.

For Cornell, is this a possible way to stop paying for WorldCat Local?
