Gregory J.Galvin

Kionix

Gregory J. Galvin is president and CEO of Kionix Inc. (Ithaca, N.Y.), which he founded in 1993 to commercialize a novel micromechanical technology pioneered by researchers at Cornell. The company's optical business was acquired by California-based Calient Networks in December 2000 and Galvin served as president and CEO of the newly formed Calient Optical Components until 2002 when he returned to Kionix. Previously, he served Cornell for nine years, first as deputy director of the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility and later as director of corporate research relations, focusing on technology transfer. He has published more than 20 technical papers and holds 58 patents. Galvin is a member of the Cornell University Council and serves as a director of the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research, Tompkins County Area Development, the Kensa Group, the El Portal de Belén Foundation, and Ithaca's Sciencenter.
