UDCI (University Data Clean-up Initiative) is a university wide initiative which is requred by all units on campus. All servers in the server farm will be scanned over the period of 6/15 - 8/1. Scan results will be sent to the server owner to be reviewed. The applications group will create a model for each type of server. The model will be documented and the followed by the server owner who recieves the scan results. There are around 100 database servers that will be scanned during this clean-up initiative.
Database server model guidelines:
- u01 files are software and log files. The log retention requirement for the DB servers is 2 weeks. The logs are moved to TSM every 2 weeks. These files will not be reviewed.
-u02 and u03 files are database container files. We know there is confidentail data in our databases, those databases which contain confidential data are located in the secure tier. Reviewing our database containers is was not intended to be part of this process. u02 and u03 files will not be reviewed.
-exports and back-up directories are purged on a nightly basis. Files found in these directories will not be reivewed, because they will no longer be there by the time someone reivews the scan results.
-dump files are overwitten on a nightly basis and binary files. these files will not be reviewed.
-files in \users\ directories will be reivewed. If the person is a DBA, the DBA group will work to get the data reviewed and cleaned up. If the person is outside of the DBA group, Kevin or Garry will send to Sarah for follow up
