Alec D. Gallimore

Alec Gallimore is the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering, the Richard F.
and Eleanor A. Towner Professor of Engineering and an Arthur F. Thurnau
Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University
of Michigan. He co-directs the Plasmadynamics and Electric Propulsion
Laboratory and is on the faculty of the Applied Physics program at Michigan.
His primary research interests include the development of advanced
spacecraft propulsion systems (electric propulsion) and the optical, laser,
microwave and probe plasma diagnostics necessary to understand and
advance this technology. He is the author of more than 360 technical papers
on advanced spacecraft propulsion and plasma physics. He has graduated 40
Ph.D. students and 14 master’s students, and serves on a number of advisory
and governance boards for government entities, corporations and academic
institutions. He is a fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and
Astronautics and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
