This section is where admins can set the masthead image in their exhibit’s header, an exhibit thumbnail (for display on the main exhibits index), and their exhibit’s main navigation pages.

Exhibit masthead (or banner image)

Exhibit mastheads appear at the top of each of your exhibit's pages. By default, your title and optional subtitle appear over a black background, but you can change this black background to a background image of your choosing:

  1. Log in and go to your Exhibit Dashboard
  2. Select Appearance from lefthand navigation
  3. Click "Show background image in masthead"
  4. Select either an image that you've already uploaded as an exhibit item ("From this exhibit") or "Upload an image".

To reduce blur, use an image (jpg, jpeg, png) at least 180 pixels tall and 1800 pixels wide.

Because the masthead image needs to display on any device size, it is preferred to use a patterned background rather than one that needs to be exactly positioned, e.g. an image with text or a photo of a person.

Great examples from currently published exhibits:

Exhibit thumbnail

Exhibit thumbnails appear on the main exhibits index, with your exhibit title. Exhibit subtitle and description (set in Configuration: General) display when hovering over your exhibit thumbnail.

Main menu

These are the main navigation items that appear under your exhibit masthead. You can rename, reorder, or hide any of these items.

Visual theme

All exhibits are using default visual stylesheets reviewed for accessibility. This means that curators can control content and layout, but visual design formatting is limited (e.g. bold, italics, list, heading, etc. See: Editing Pages). In certain circumstances, CUL-IT may be able to work with curators to create custom visual styling for individual exhibits (Custom Visual Theme).
