Visual Resource Services for Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences worked out with the Library a plan for meeting the digitization needs of A&S faculty after the closing of the Knight Visual Resources Facility. To this end, two programs have been set up:
1. Digitization in Support of Teaching
Digitization of various material types, metadata creation, and online delivery of images, audiovisual, and other visual resources will be done by Digital Consulting and Production Services (DCAPS). For the most recently updated information, please visit Arts and Sciences Teaching Digitization.
The rough turn-around time for images is:
- 1-100 images: within 2 weeks
- 101-500 images: 3-5 weeks
- 500+ images: within 3 months.
- Rush orders of 1-5 images can be processed by the end of the following business day and delivered on CD or by FTP.
The rough turnaround time for audiovisual materials is:
- 1-3 items: 2 weeks (in-house)
- 4-20 items: 4-8 weeks (in-house)
- 25+ items: please inquire for a time estimate
Note: Outsourced formats like film, digital video tape, HD formats, and grooved media have a 6-8 week minimum turnaround time, regardless of item count.

2. Competitive Grants for Creating Digital Collections
A special grants program will be launched to encourage and support collaborative and creative use of resources through the creation of digital
content of enduring value to the Cornell community and scholarship at large. Open to faculty in A&S, the program will focus on digitizing collections
(both visual and textual) that are instrumental in supporting learning and teaching. Funds will cover expenses such as digitization and metadata
creation, collaboration planning, and wages or summer stipends for research assistants.
