Subteam Leader Responsibilities

Subteam leaders foster a collaborative learning environment within their project team to maximize the growth of each of the team members. Subteam leaders:

• Create a presentation for their own team explaining their project
• ensure that there is at least one regular weekly meeting outside of class time (in addition to the Wednesday meeting)
• send a weekly email to their team copied to research or invent team leaders that defines tasks for the week with dead lines
• ensure that all team members have well defined tasks (every week) and appropriate resources to successfully complete those tasks
• foster peer-based learning within their team
• seek out expert advisers to maximize the team's efficiency
• identify impediments to progress and take active steps to address those impediments
• foster a positive collaborative environment that is a prerequisite for a high performing team
• maintain regular electronic communication with team members as well as face-to-face meetings
• guide weekly reflective discussions on the team interaction effectiveness to foster continual improvement
• maintain high standards and high expectations
• hold team members accountable to meet their commitments to the team
• check for comprehension and take appropriate steps to guide growth of the team members
• insist that expert team members empower novice members (see Novice-expert continuum)
