Proposed changes to make the trip even more successful

Recommendations for 2012 AguaClara Trip

Itinerary
• Minimize van time, maximize community time
• Stay in a place at least 2 nights
• Day of arrival: short van ride + 1 scheduled activity? + team interaction time
• Go to north coast only if AC plant/site there (otherwise, too much van time)
• AC sites near Teguc. (Ojojona, Tamara, 4 Comunidades) could be visited by 3 groups who report to large group that night
• Avoid staying overnight in Teguc itself-->home stays in 1 of above communities? (Maybe a $ donation to water board, who arranges hosting, rather than to hosts)
• Team meetings every other night, some brief
• Team meeting last night
• Plan souvenir/shopping time for those interested
• Last town closer to SPS, to lessen overall return travel time (Fri-Sat.), with an activity Fri. morning (souvenir-ing?)

Packing
• Light jacket (& scarf/hoodie) for cool nights & mornings
• Hiking shoes (waterproof?)
• Long johns (for cold bus rides to/from JFK & for nights with few blankets)

Meals
• Ask/count those who prefer non-meat meals (not just "vegetarians")
• More times when all find own meals (takes more time, but allows more student-Honduran interactions & price choices)
• More calling ahead for meal/price choices and students' choose-->call in orders

Trip tasks
• 2 people-counters
• 2 student accountants ($)
• 2 meal-choice census takers

Health
• Task-specific first-aid mini kits (wound care; digestive; respiratory)
• Hand sanitizer refill bottle (if all bring own small bottles)
• Protected water bottle spouts

Communication
• Arrival confirmation w/contact #s to all emergency contacts (via CEE?)
