Week 4: (9-22-2008 to 9-28-2008)

would like to use solar for local school (~80 people, noonday meal)
if we want to do complicated trough system, we need to educate people about how it works so that they 'own' it
previous trough system made by other group considered 'magical' by users, i.e. they don't own it, don't know how to repair it etc.
we looked at trough, discussed making a trough system (temperature gradient driven flow, compare kW w/electric range, what angle of parabola)
Tim comments that glass breaking is excellent engineering problem (well-defined, possible to test, likelihood of success)
we need to decide what we need to do: one design-based group (higher temperatures, or a higher volume of food?)- higher volume of food probably more important
also a troubleshooting group for glass breaking
trip in spring usually spring break to go to Nicaragua

Work Completed:
letter written (by Yamalet) in Spanish to Mujeres Solares
who wants to do each project?
