PhysIT expected to provide IT consulting to various folks who manage IT-related services in Physics. Ideally, learn about each environment and their needs before we are called in for consultation.Lean who is the lead for each and their position responsibilities (create vs. maintain?).

Testing Center

Q: Backups/ restoration, if off-network?
A: 11/11/13: Barry reports that each of the three computers copies its (2?) files to the other 2 computers. And Allan SneakerNets the files occasionally to his computer.

  • 2 files: FileMakerPro file and an Excel file.

Machines can be connected to a 10-space router to allow for updates.

  • What is this update schedule and procedure?

11/11/13Mon: Oliver and Barry walked through much of Physics, including:

  • Amin area
    • Blue screen of death on Christina's PC. Network issues on John Miner's PC (USB-to-ethernet adapter and switch) and Kacey's PC (switch).
  • Nick's Clark Hall 3rd and 4th floor (Nick not around).

Almost every day, Michael Hint looking at specific computers and learning about network, printers, etc.issues from staff.
