Wiki Markup*{+}Background:+* _Salmonella enterica_ subsp. _enterica_ serovar Montevideo (antigenic formula 6,7,14:g,m,\[p\],s:\[1,2,7\]) is a serovar of the O:7 (C{~}1~1) serogroup. _S._ Montevideo is the sixth most common serovar isolated from humans and animals in the U.S. Outbreaks caused by _S._ Montevideo have been associated with [imported spices|http://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/montevideo/index.html] and [live poultry|http://www. cdc.gov/salmonella/montevideo-06-12/index.html]. Whole [genome sequencing|http://aem.asm.org/content/early/2011/10/14/AEM.06538-11] of a number of _S._ Montevideo strains have been conducted, including an study that identified one strain with two [large plasmids|http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0041247] that encoded antimicrobial and heavy metal resistance genes.
