  1. Double click the Jeol9300 or Jeol6300 Jeol9500 icon on the Windows desktop (this will auto start a special XMing)

SunRays

  1. Open a terminal
  2. Run (the first line with "xset" may or may not be necessary):
  3. No Format
    xset fp+ tcp/jeol6300jeol9500.cnf.cornell.edu:7100 
    Xnest :1 -query jeol6300jeol9500.cnf.cornell.edu
    
    1. In the above command, if server screen :1 is in use, you should try :2 or :3 or so on
    2. In the above command, substitute "jeol6300.cnf.cornell.edu" if connecting to the JEOL6300 instead of the 9500.
  4. Login to the jeol
  5. Keep in mind that your connection between calico the SunRays and jeol the JEOL is NOT encrypted

JEOLs (ssh)

Windows

  1. Start XMing
  2. Open Putty
  3. Under Connection → SSH → X11, check the box to "Enable X11 Forwarding"
  4. Under Session, for the Host Name, enter in jeol6300.cnf.cornell.edu (or jeol9500.cnf.cornell.edu if connecting to the JEOL9500)
  5. The username and password are available from the JEOL6300 JEOL tool managers.
  6. In the JEOL6300 JEOL terminal, type in commands to locally display the remotely running GUI JEOL applications.

SunRays

  1. Open a terminal
  2. Assuming the username is jeol_username (username and password are available from the JEOL6300 tool managers), type in
    No Format
    ssh -Y jeol_username@jeol6300.cnf.cornell.edu
    
    if connecting to the JEOL9500, substitute "jeol9500.cnf.cornell.edu"
    the jeol_username is available from the JEOL tool managers.

Korat/Minx

  • Only accessible from a local CNF network
  1. If on a CNF Windows system, first start XMing (if XMing is running, you will see the XMing icon in your Windows system tray)
  2. On either CNF Windows or SunRays, double click the Korat or the Minx icon on your Desktop (also under the Applications menu on SunRays)
  3. You will be prompted for your CNF username and password
