Wiki Markup*{+}Background:+* _Salmonella enterica_ subsp. _enterica_ serovar Montevideo (antigenic formula 6,7,14:g,m,\[p\],s:\[1,2,7\]) is a serovar of the O:7 (C{~}1~1) serogroup. This serovar is the sixth most common serovar in the U.S. in humans and animals. _S._ Montevideo is among the serovars commonly isolated from animals. Lately, some of the outbreaks linked to this serovar have been associated with imported spices. Whole genome sequencing of a number of _S._ Montevideo strains have been conducted, including an study that identified two large plasmid encoding antimicrobial and heavy metal resistance genes.  . S. Montevideo is the sixth most common serovar isolated from humans and animals in the U.S. Outbreaks caused by S. Montevideo have been associated with imported spices and live poultry. Whole genome sequencing of a number of S. Montevideo strains have been conducted, including an study that identified one strain with two large plasmids that encoded antimicrobial and heavy metal resistance genes.
