This page is useful primarily if you need to keep your NetID when you leave the University to access University resources ( email, library, VPN, cluster, etc. )  or you need a NetID to access University resources and you will not receive a NetID automatically as you are NOT a new student, new faculty, or new staff member of the University.

Getting a NetID or keeping a NetID when you leave

Chemistry and Chemical Biology departmental process

Creation of new NetID:

1. Have the responsible faculty member send an email to the department chair (currently David Collum <dbc6>) with a cc of the email request to Chemistry IT <ChemIT@cornell.edu> providing the following information:

5. CIT will mail setup and usage information about the new NetID to the address on the CIT Form 70. If this won't work for any reason, contact Chemistry IT.

Keeping your NetID when you leave the University or reactivating an old NetID:

Renewing a "sponsored" NetID:

At the beginning of the each month, CIT provides a list of sponsored NetID's that will expire that month to the department chair. The department chair provides that list to Chemistry IT. Chemistry IT sends an email to faculty member associated with each sponsored NetID making them aware of the potential expiration and reminding them of the steps involved.

If the faculty member continues to need these NetIDs to be sponsored, the associated faculty member must:

4. The NetID will be extended.

If a NetID is not renewed, CIT will provide one last notice to the department chair. The department chair provides notice to Chemistry IT who will attempt one last time to make the appropriate faculty member aware of the situation.
