Lecture demo web site
Hosted by Barry Robinson, using CIT's VM infrastructure he uses to host many Physics web sites:
Info from Barry:
- Note this is a distinctly separate web site than the Physics Admin web site <http://www.physics.cornell.edu/> Barry also hosts in the same CIT VM (virtual machine) rented space.
- Access is restricted by .htaccess, thus username and password required. (Who are these credentials shared with? Who changes and/or when do they change?)
- Static pages. Jennie and Phil depend on this site, and maintain the items within it.
Oliver's recommendation:
- Look at options and decide how to sustain. One efficient way to do this is have the stakeholders consult with CIT's ATC, perhaps in coordinating with Tricia..
- The ATC site states, "Academic Technologies offers services such as non-intensive website support and hosting." And it's free.
- As part of looking at options, characterize the purpose the present site serves.
- Whatever is decided, clarify any obligations for those hosting and maintaining thesite. Ensure fair remuneration to sustain the site as-is and/ or migrate it as appropriate.
- The recommended coordination with Tricia et al. is so they are at least aware of the need, and especially as it might relate to the current departmental Physics site and it's proposed future.
Web site run out of the Linux Lab
- http://computing.physics.cornell.edu
- http://webmail.physics.cornell.edu - Email services being provided - why?
- http://pages.physics.cornell.edu/ - free personal webhost for users with SQL being provided - why?
- Direct open to the world SSH services being provided to all workstations and servers - why?
- http://www.eyh.cornell.edu/ - Expand Your Horizons - why can't this be run of one of CIT's web services or by CCMR who is the official departmental owner of this group

PhysIT to look over current files and develop a proposal for John.
...
Option 1: Move server to PhysIT, temporarily. Less disruption, less risk. Then migrate to A&S's FMPro server.
Option 2: Migrate to A&S's FMPro server.
- Project Copernicus (PhysIT) (restricted, for PhysIT staff)
