Some of the terminology in FOLIO is a little different than what we are accustomed to in Voyager. Here are some of the terms useful for public servicesto know.
- FOLIO = Future of Libraries is Open. FOLIO is known as a web-based platform accessible via a specific web address.
- Community Driven = FOLIO is a platform which is always in development, new . New things are always being worked on, and are added a number of times per year via a each new release. A It is developed by a community of people working in libraries around the world to who contribute to the content provided in FOLIO.
- Encumbrance = amount committed on a fund from a purchase order line.
- FOLIO = Future of Libraries is Open. FOLIO is known as a web-based platform accessible via a specific web address.
- Ledger = will represent our funding sources. Endowed & Contract College
- Group = will represent the collection development teams. Ex Area, Central, Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Law and Rare & Distinctive.
- Release Date = This is when a new update (s) or new versions version of FOLIO are is added. Different libraries will be on different versions at different times depending upon the same time depending on when they moved to implemented FOLIO. Ex. Cornell’s 1st instance of FOLIO will be “IRIS”. All releases of FOLIO are flower names.
- Honeysuckle, Iris, Juniper, Kiwi, etc. = Each new release of FOLIO has a name coming from a botanical and they progress in alphabetical order. The current release that we are using for training is Honeysuckle. We will get the Iris release in mid-May 2021 and will “go-live” on this release on July 1. Juniper will be released later in 2021.
- SIG = Special Interest Group. A Special Interest Group is a group of people from libraries and other places using FOLIO that are interested in contributing to a specific functional area of the FOLIO platform.

- Effective Location = That specific item’s most current location, where the user can go right then to find the item as long as it is Available.
