Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Indiana (antigenic formula 6formula 1,74,1412:e,hz:e1,n,z157) is a serovar of the O:7 4 (C1B) serogroup. S. Indiana is a common serotype commonly found in raw chicken form from the Hebnan Henan province in China; Indiana isolates from chickens in China , which have been reported to typically be resistant to ciprofloxacin, with frequent co-resistance to cefotaxime.
Animal reservoir: The most common reservoir for serovar Derby is retail chickens, but it has also been found in raw milk cheese, turkeys, ducks and swine.
Geographical distribution: S. Derby is found in the US, Europe and China.
