macOS Sierra (10.12) - recommended version of OS X
- As of 12/22/16...
- CNF Computing recommends MacOS Sierra over MacOS El Capitan
- MacPorts - installs with lots of dependencies do not work... try using "ulimit -n" to increase the max number of open file descriptors from 256 to something like 1024
- OpenAFS will continue to work if upgrading from MacOS El Capitan with an existing OpenAFS installation. OpenAFS cannot be installed cleanly on MacOS Sierra – use the Auristor client (OpenAFS compatible) instead.
- does not recommend High Sierra (10.13) because of the high number of bugs and security issues
- Two options for OpenAFS exist on 10.12 and 10.13:
- CORAL has only been fully tested on 10.12
- for A/V, CIT recommends SophosCORAL is known to work properly.
