M.Eng/Undergraduate Project Opportunity:
Rotating Mirror Lidar sensor for autonomous ground robots
The Autonomous Systems Laboratory (ASL) is looking for a highly motivated MAE/ECE/CS student CSstudent to develop a rotating mirror lidar sensor for one of our ground robots. Traditional lidar units measure range, and scan over a plane (typically 90 to 180deg). We

propose to add a rotating mirror in front of the lidar to allow the plane to scan in the opposite direction, thus enabling the sensor to fully sense a 3D environment. The project will include the mechanical design of the mirror with a rotary motor and encoder to measure angle. Time synchrinozation of the data between the lidar and encoder will be critical to the final sensor. Final validation will include integrating and testing on a robot.
