In March On April 28th 2012 the Static Web Hosting service will be migrated to new hardware. There should be no visible change to the service and it should not be necessary to update any existing client configurations.  Customer data will be migrated to the new hardware and there should be no action required for most users.

In the process we will be updating existing configurations that are stored in the server configuration and moving them to ".htaccess" files that will be accessible via Webdav.  This should enable customers to further customize their static site or should they choose migrate their static site to other hosting services, their own web servers, or external web host providers.  We will also be changing some global settings like disabling file directory listings, we will provide documentation on how to enable this functionality on a per-directory basis as needed.

We will also be disabling/deleting unused websites/data directories.  Future communications will detail the timeline for the migration and provide specifics of any configuration changes.

Summary of changes

We will start enforcing file quotas with the move to the system.  Disk quota has been set based on data from April 11th, 2012.  Additional disk quota will be granted on a case-by-case basis.  You can check on your current disk utilization by visiting:

We will also be deactivating sites that no longer appear to be active or were setup for staging purposes.  The complete list of deleted sites can be seen below.  Deactivated sites will have a sorry page displayed that will look like the following: http://static.hosting.cornell.edu/infra-error/retired.shtml
