My name is Hap Bradley and I work for Cornell's Adult University. After seeing a flyer in my office, I decided to audit this course for many reasons. My primary reason is to gain a more nuanced understanding of the process by which the marketplace mediates the value of art. On a more theoretical level, I am interested in how this mediation, over time, has informed our definition of aesthetics. I also have two professional reasons for taking this course. First, my job takes me all over the world, with alumni and professors, to various museums and events like Art Basel and the Venice Biennale. I would love to enhance these experiences, for myself and alumni, with a deeper understanding of the art market. Second, I restore rare vintage-motorcycles and have recently been interested (as a friend's bike appeared in the Johnson last spring) in my hobby as an art form and how this, and the restoration of  antiquity in general, correlates to the marketplace.  I look forward to working with and learning from all of you. My apologies for the silly pic, I'm in the office and it's the only one I could find online:
