  • PIRIP is administered as a special program through the School of Continuing Education and Summer Session.
  • International visiting non-degree undergraduate and graduate students, who will be research interns at Cornell for a period of six months or less, are eligible to participate in the program.
  • Deadlines: There is some flexibility, but it must be somewhat timely so that visas may be obtained.
    • Spring admission - October 15.
    • Fall and Summer admission - March 15.
  • Student research interns must be sponsored by a faculty member and their participation in the program approved by the sponsoring faculty, the department/school Chair/Director, and David Gries, Associate Dean. An approval form is attached and should be filled out and signed at the department/school level and then sent to David Gries (gries@cs.cornell.edu) for approval well in advance of the student's arrival on campus.

    Tuition Fellowship and Fee

  • All participating PIRIP students (both summer and academic semester) must register as "Regular Registrants" through Continuing Education and Summer Session.
    Spring PIRIP 2009 Fee = $1010 X 25% X 12 credits = $2,910.00
    Summer PIRIP 2009 Fee = $1010 X 25% X 6 credits = $1,455.0

  1. Submit a PIRIP approval form for each visiting international student research intern that will participate in the program to David Gries via email (gries@cs.cornell.edu) or hard copy prior to the student's arrival on campus. An approved form will be returned to you.
  2. Submit the approved form to Continuing Education and Summer Session as soon as the signed form is returned to you.
  3. Have each international research intern register with Continuing Education and Summer Session in an appropriate level Independent Study Course. Undergraduate students must register for 6 credits during the summer and 12 credits during an academic semester.
