PII scanning tools are used to search for Personally Identifiable Information (PII) on computers.  Most commonly, such data takes the form of social security numbers and credit card numbers paired with names. The PII scanning tools most widely in use at Cornell currently are Identity Finder and Spider.  This site is intended as a conduit for information for technical support providers who support these tools.

Identity Finder

Identify Finder is a widely used commercial product for which many departments at Cornell have purchased licenses under an umbrella agreement. Cornell's license is by person (as opposed to by computer) and covers the Enterprise client and server console products.

Spider

Spider is a free, open source tool developed at Cornell, and is in use at universities and companies worldwide.  As of August 2009 it supports Windows and Linux.
